About This Sentence-Building Worksheet

Japanese word order is different from English — it is broadly subject–object–verb, and particles, not position, show each word's role. Getting comfortable with this new order is one of the biggest early hurdles for learners.

This worksheet trains it in an active, puzzle-like way. Each item gives you a set of scrambled word cards and an English meaning, and your job is to arrange them into a correct Japanese sentence and write it on the line. Because the particles are on the cards, you practise word order and particle placement together.

A full answer key shows the correct sentence for each puzzle. Reordering the pieces yourself makes the underlying grammar pattern visible in a way that simply reading example sentences never does.

  • An English meaning for each target sentence
