This Privacy Policy explains how NihongoDoya ("we", "us" and "our"), an independent Japanese-learning website operated from Nepal, handles information when you visit nihongodoya.com. There are no user accounts or logins, and the site's essential learning content remains available without accepting optional analytics or advertising cookies. We process an email address only when you choose to subscribe while requesting a PDF or when you contact us directly.

1. Information We Collect

We do not operate our own long-term customer database. However, our website and service providers process limited information for the purposes described below:

  • Email address: when you submit the PDF form, a Cloudflare Worker validates and transmits your address to our email provider, Brevo, which stores it on our mailing list. The site owner can access that list to administer subscriptions and send occasional Japanese-study materials and site updates. A copy is also saved in your browser so the site does not repeatedly ask for it. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe option, and you can request deletion at contact@nihongodoya.com.
  • Messages you send: if you email us, we receive your email address and the content of your message so we can respond.
  • Usage & device data (Google Analytics): after you accept optional cookies, Google may process pages viewed, events, approximate location, browser and device information and referring pages. We use this to understand and improve the site. IP anonymisation is enabled in our Analytics configuration.
  • Advertising data (Google AdSense): after you accept optional cookies, Google and its partners may use cookies or similar identifiers to deliver and measure ads, subject to Google's policies and any regional consent controls.
  • Server & security logs (via our host/CDN): standard request logs (IP address, timestamp, requested file, user-agent) that our hosting and content-delivery provider keeps automatically to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse.

Interactive tools, quizzes and mock tests may save answers, scores, progress and settings in your browser's local storage. The site also stores your cookie choice and, after a PDF subscription, your submitted email address for convenience. This browser data remains on your device unless a feature explicitly sends information as described above.

2. Cookies & Local Storage

Cookies are small files stored by a website. Local storage is a similar browser feature that can retain settings and progress. On your first visit, our banner lets you choose between essential storage only and optional analytics and advertising:

  • Essential local storage remembers your privacy choice and may retain tool settings, mock-test progress, practice statistics and the PDF-email convenience value.
  • Optional analytics loads Google Analytics and its cookies only after you choose "Accept optional cookies".
  • Optional advertising loads Google AdSense and related advertising storage only after you choose "Accept optional cookies".

Reviewing your choice clears the saved consent decision and reloads the page so you can choose again. You can also clear or block cookies and local storage in your browser. Clearing all site data will remove locally saved progress and the remembered PDF email. You may manage Google's ad personalisation separately through Google Ads Settings.

3. Advertising & Google AdSense

After optional-cookie consent, this website may display advertising served by Google AdSense to help keep learning materials free. In connection with this:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info/choices.
  • For more detail, see How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

4. Third-Party Services We Use

We use the following third parties, each governed by its own terms and privacy policy:

  • Cloudflare — website hosting, content delivery, security and the Worker that forwards PDF subscriptions to Brevo.
  • Google Analytics — optional traffic measurement. See How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
  • Google AdSense — optional advertising and measurement.
  • Google Fonts, cdnjs and jsDelivr — delivery of fonts, icons and software files; requests to these services may include technical connection data such as an IP address.
  • Brevo (brevo.com) — email newsletter service. Stores the email addresses submitted for PDF downloads and sends our study-materials emails. See Brevo's Privacy Policy.
  • Amazon and other external sites — affiliate or reference links do not connect you to those sites until you click them. Once clicked, the destination's own policies apply.

We do not sell or rent personal information. The site owner can access Brevo subscriber information for mailing-list administration; other providers process information under their own policies, including Google's Privacy Policy and Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

5. Data Retention

Email addresses submitted for PDF downloads remain in Brevo until you unsubscribe, ask us to delete them or the mailing list is closed. Local-storage data remains until the site removes it or you clear it. Cloudflare, Google and other providers retain technical, analytics and advertising data according to their configured retention periods and policies. The transient Worker request used to submit an email is not a separate NihongoDoya customer database.

6. Children's Privacy

NihongoDoya is a general-audience educational website. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 or below the applicable digital-consent age in their country. A child below that age should not submit an email address without permission from a parent or guardian. If you believe a child submitted personal information, contact us so we can address it.

7. Your Rights & Choices

We use consent for optional analytics, advertising and email marketing. We rely on legitimate interests or other applicable legal grounds for essential security, site delivery and responding to messages. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, or complain to a data-protection authority.

  • Unsubscribe using the link in any marketing email or request access, correction or deletion from the site owner at contact@nihongodoya.com.
  • Use the "Review cookie choices" button above to withdraw or change your site consent decision.
  • Manage or opt out of ad personalisation at Google Ads Settings.
  • Control analytics tracking with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • Clear or block cookies in your browser at any time.

We may need enough information to verify and fulfil a request. These rights can vary by jurisdiction and may be subject to legal exceptions.

8. International Visitors

NihongoDoya is operated from Nepal for a global audience. The service providers above may process information in Nepal, the European Economic Area, the United States or other countries. Those countries may have different data-protection laws, and providers use their own transfer safeguards where required.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards appropriate to this small educational site, including HTTPS and established service providers. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or in the services we use. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
